Govender's daunting innings out of reach
Macclesfield Express
|May 21, 2025
N yet another sunny Saturday, Prestbury hosted a Bunbury side on a roll, coming into the game having won their last three matches.
Prestbury skipper George Brindley won the toss and asked Bunbury to bat.
JP Roets opened the bowling with Brindley for Prestbury and with the second ball of the innings had McNeil caught by Mutu Rananthan for 0.
The early breakthrough was something of a false dawn for the home side, however, as new batsman Tasbrig Govender, the South African overseas amateur, hit his first three balls to the boundary and with Clark proceeded to put together a partnership of 238 off 30 overs, Govender reaching his century.
Clark was out for 90, but with Lamb and then Noonan, Govender dominated the scoring, completing his double hundred before finally falling to a catch for Brindley off the bowling of Bobby Reid. It was the highest individual score I have seen at Prestbury in my 20+ years - he made 213 out of a Bunbury total of 355 for 4.
A mention for Reid. who took 2 for 25 off 6 overs. Roets 1 for 20 and Ahmed 1 for 94.
