CEC ‘ignored road collapse’ warnings

CHESHIRE East Council has been accused of ignoring numerous warnings over the state of a rural road before it suffered a carriageway collapse.

The sinkhole at Standing Stone Road, in Macclesfield Forest

As reported in last week's Express, Standing Stone Road, in Macclesfield Forest, is closed after a sinkhole appeared.

Although pictures show a relatively small hole on the surface it is thought that there is a much larger cavity underneath the road. It has been caused by a blocked culvert under the carriageway and residents say this has been reported to the council for several years but has now come to a head as nothing was done.
