Bonus point consolation in Upton loss
Macclesfield Express
|June 18, 2025
AWAY at Upton, Macc Seconds had a delayed start as the water left from an early morning storm dried up. Skipper Chris Beckley won the toss and opted to bowl first.
In the first over, Ben Farmer bowled Potter who played a wild shot better suited to the last over of the innings rather than the first.
At the other end Talbot led something of a charmed life as careful defence was mixed with frequent use of the pad to keep out Ben Curwen as the Upton umpire ruled in the batsman’s favour each time.
Upton’s Yeates was playing well at this point and he was mainly responsible for pushing Upton’s score past 50 as he hit three fours and one six in an attractive innings.
With the score on 52 though he played one shot too many off Farmer and he was well caught by Curwen who covered a lot of ground to get under a steeper.
Macc appeared to be getting ahead in the game when Talbot was caught by Beckley off the bowling of his godson Jack Kelly to make it 66-3.
Nearing the half-way point of the innings, Beckley trapped Di Steffano lbw to leave Upton on 94-4 and it didn’t look they had made best use of a good wicket and a pitch with a short boundary one side.
