Salford close in on play-offs with win

SALFORD took a big step towards securing a Betfred Super League play-off spot with a 27-12 victory over Catalans Dragons.

The hosts narrowly led 12-6 at the break, but two tries after half-time helped open up a 20-point advantage before the French side applied some late pressure.

Salford move up to fourth place in the congested table, while defeat leaves Catalans down in eighth and still two points adrift of the top six.

After this week’s positive news off the pitch, with Salford City Council voting to take full ownership of the community stadium, it was down to the Red Devils to do the business on it.

They were under intense pressure immediately but withstood it well, the Dragons only managing two points via a penalty from Arthur Mourgue.
