24-HOUR TENNIS MARATHON TO HELP MORE GET ACCESS TO AN UNCOMMON CANCER TREATMENT

- By EVA MILLETT eva.millett@reachplc.com

ACE WAY TO SAY THANKS

AFTER getting a cancer treatment that is available to very few, Charlotte Jackson set about raising money so more people can receive it.

Charlotte, 34, was diagnosed with a tumour behind her eye in 2023.

Private healthcare insurance meant she could get proton beam therapy, a type of radiotherapy that uses protons to precisely destroy cancer cells while minimising damage to healthy tissue.

As the tumour behind Charlotte's eye grew, she permanently lost 70 per cent of the vision in her right eye.

But proton beam therapy halted further vision loss and helped protect her from potential long-term side-effects.

Charlotte, from Newtown Linford, wants more people to be able to get the treatment and organised a 24-hour tennis fundraiser at the village club.

Money will go to Proton International at University College London Hospitals which offers the UK’s only proton beam therapy centre with both NHS-funded and private treatment.
