Time to save lives with 20mph limits

ON Tuesday night, a young woman was crossing the road in Liverpool city centre, at the junction of James and Castle Street.

She was hit by a car and is now in a critical condition.

The fact that she sustained such serious injuries would suggest that the car was travelling faster than 20mph.

We'll need to await the results of the investigation before confirming that.

There are hundreds of roads in Liverpool, including the city centre, that still have 30mph speed limits. Why?
