Should Ormskirk and Skem become part of Merseyside?

DEBATE ON TOWNS' FUTURE UNDER REVAMP OF COUNCIL CONTROL

COUNCILLORS have sparked a debate by suggesting that Ormskirk and Skelmersdale should be aligned with Merseyside rather than Lanca-shire in an upcoming overhaul of local government structures.

During discussions at West Lancashire Borough Council, it was highlighted that such a move was “not really an option.”

Instead, the more probable outcome would see West Lancs collaborate with neighbouring Chorley and South Ribble. The region of West Lancashire shares borders with various areas including Merseyside, Wigan in Greater Manchester, as well as Chorley and South Ribble.

The towns of Ormskirk and Skelmersdale, along with rural zones, are influenced by diverse factors ranging from local economies and housing to transport connections and educational institutions like Edge Hill University, not to mention social and cultural ties.
