'Murder suspect is fighting for life'

POLICE UPDATE AS THEY APPEAL FOR WITNESSES TO BUS JOURNEY
A MAN arrested on suspicion of murdering a shopkeeper is fighting for his life days after falling ill in police custody.
Police were called to Low Cost Food and Wine on Stanley Road, Bootle, on Friday at around 5pm.
They found 44-year-old Nilani Nimalarajah dying from multiple stab wounds to the chest.
Officers arrested a 47-year-old man from Widnes at the scene.
After arriving in police custody, the suspect fell ill and was taken to hospital.
Police said yesterday that he remains in hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition.
