ALEXIS Mac Allister has admitted he hasn’t been satisfied with the start of his season with Liverpool, but hopes a positive international break with Argentina can kickstart his campaign.

- By THEO SQUIRES

The midfielder scored a first half brace for the reigning world champions as they thrashed Puerto Rico 6-0 in Miami on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes in the international friendly, marking the first time he has completed a full 90 minutes since the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Leicester City back in April.

The midfielder saw his previous season ended prematurely by injury. And while it had been hoped that he would return to fitness in time for the start of preseason he, ultimately, did not forge a comeback until the end of July.

Mac Allister has been left playing catch up as a result, with boss Arne Slot continuing to manage his minutes carefully.

But the Argentine, who sat out the trip to Newcastle United in August through injury, hasn’t been at his best and looked short of fitness at times as Slot’s new-look Reds side continues to gel.
