ONE PERSON TAKEN TO HOSPITAL FOR 'UNRELATED ISSUE'

- By JAMIE GREER & BEN HASLAM

GUESTS and staff were evacuated from a hotel yesterday morning as paramedics and fire crew swarmed outside.

Several ambulances were parked up outside the Liverpool Aigburth Hotel on Aigburth Drive and paramedics were spotted checking over people by the entrance.

Guests told the ECHO they were ordered to leave the venue at around 7am due to a carbon monoxide leak, with one member of staff affected.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed carbon monoxide levels in the basement were high. A spokesperson added that a person has been taken to hospital for an unrelated issue. They said crews left the scene at 9.45am.

One of the guests in the hotel was Darryl McCrary, 60, from Texas, who is spending a retirement holiday in the UK.

He said: "There has been a carbon monoxide leak. We've all been checked and have no levels of it in our system. The member of staff was affected but I think he is fine.”
