Cold comfort for rail users as services axed

MERSEYRAIL has provided a full explanation for the major disruption on its network yesterday morning.

Parts of the network ground to a halt, causing huge issues for commuters trying to get to work.

In Wirral, the Ellesmere Port and Chester lines were suspended from Rock Ferry, while all services on the Ormskirk line were also suspended during the key morning period. It was the same for services on the Hunts Cross line. Services only returned to normal in the afternoon.

Merseyrail said the issues were due to ice on the tracks, with trains struggling to draw power from the third rail, which is the power source on the ground for the network.
