Top accolade for Haldane teenager

A teenager who proudly became a local ambassador for autism and Asperger's was given a special award to recognise his achievements.

Kieran Ashton, from Haldane, who is determined to spread the word far and wide about the conditions, was presented with the Young Achiever of the Year honour by fellow members of the Vale of Leven Autism and Asperger's Forum (VOLAAF) five years ago.

The second-year Vale of Leven Academy pupil was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was at primary school and, since then, he and parents Angela and William were supported by the group.

Kieran, then 14, has made it his mission to educate people about the developmental disabilities and to fundraise for the charity.

Proud mum Angela said: "It's fantastic. I am so delighted for him. He's really deserving of it as well."
