THE county golf union's 72-hole spring tournament for the Robin Fraser Trophy was contested over two courses last weekend. Two rounds were played at Birstall and two at Longcliffe.

Productive weekend as Plant takes trophy

It produced the biggest county win of his career for Will Plant (Cosby), who finished with a seven under par aggregate of 67-71 at Birstall, followed by 69-70 rounds over the always-challenging Longcliffe course for his 277 aggregate over the two days.

He won by a stroke from county champion Scott Wormleighton (Rothley Park), who carded 65-70 at Birstall, where he was formerly a member, then shot 69-74 at Longcliffe for his six under 278 tally.

England senior international Steve Sansome (Rothley Park), also a former Birstall member, shared third after three were locked on 3-under-281. Luke Burrows (Cosby) and Sam Mayfield (Lutterworth) were both also on this mark.

Will Plant's father, Liam (Cosby) was next with his 283 total.
