A HOMELESS man stole a basket full of groceries from a Tesco Express that police officers happened to be visiting.

A member of staff at the supermarket in Humberstone Lane, Thurmaston, right, recognised 20-year-old Jozef Farkas, who already had 15 offences on his record.

Farkas fled with the basket, containing £85 worth of products, but the Leicestershire Police officers chased and caught him.

The goods were all recovered and Farkas, of no fixed address, was searched and a small amount of cannabis was found on him.

At Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday, he pleaded guilty to a shop theft and possessing a class B drug.
