HE'D HAD ALCOHOL AND JUMPED RED LIGHT BEFORE CRASH

- By TOM MACK

A BMW driver who went through a red light and got hit by a bin lorry has described it as “God's punishment” for his actions.

Komal Singh had been drinking before the crash, which happened on Saturday, September 20, at the junction of Rutland Street and Charles Street in Leicester city centre.

Singh, 27, had been driving along Charles Street with three passengers before the crash happened.

A Leicester City Council employee working in Charles Street witnessed the BMW go past and ignore the Rutland Street red light.

On the adjacent street at the junction, the driver of the bin lorry had just seen his light turn green and was pulling out of Rutland Street and was unable to stop the heavy vehicle quickly enough to avoid ploughing into the side of the BMW.
