Closure of birth unit 'breach of promise'
Leicester Mercury
|March 21, 2026
CAMPAIGNERS have condemned a decision to close the maternity unit in Melton.
-
The Integrated Care Board (ICB) confirmed the closure of the St Mary's unit, pictured, this week. It had been shut in July for a review.
Board members said low numbers of parents using the unit meant it was no longer viable on safety grounds and also financially.
The group Save our NHS Leicestershire said it “deplores the decision”.
