Helpline for school leavers worried about their future

A NEW phone line dedicated to school leavers who are worried about their future has been launched.

The phone line, launched by Staffordshire County Council to coincide with the end of GCSE exams, gives young people information, advice and guidance to help them with their next steps in life, and encourages them to not wait until Results Day to work out their next steps.

Many young people have already applied to college to study from September. However, each year, thousands of teenagers in Staffordshire don’t explore their options for a future after school because they are not expecting to pass, or are anxious about the next steps to college or sixth form.

Nineteen-year-old Molly Wynn is an apprentice at Staffordshire County Council and works on the new helpline. Having chosen an alternative route after school herself, she knows that there are many different ways of getting into training and jobs.
