Tandridge rejects bid to merge with Sussex borough

TANDRIDGE has rejected Crawley's advances to become a mega council under local government organisation plans.

Members of Tandridge District Council voted to remain firmly in Surrey and distanced themselves from any merger with the West Sussex borough.

Final proposals from Surrey's councils about how they think Surrey should be split under new unitary authorities were submitted to Government last Friday.

No agreement has been reached, with a number of options submitted. Most of Surrey's boroughs and districts say there should be three councils to cover Surrey, while Surrey County Council, along with Mole Valley and Elmbridge, say creating two larger authorities would be better.
