Postman Pot: The teen who set up drugs empire in his bedroom

Known as a fan of Breaking Bad in my circle of friends (our kitten is named Walter after the main character) people occasionally recommend other shows they think I'll like.

Postman Pot: The teen who set up drugs empire in his bedroom

So it was a recommendation, not an unhealthy interest in the drugs trade, that led me to the Netflix documentary Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord.

The show centres on Maximilian Schmidt, a 30-year-old German lad who built a billion dollar drug empire from his childhood bedroom.

At 18, he was jailed for selling crystal meth, LSD and cannabis on the dark net under the brand Shiny Flakes.

After serving four and a half years behind bars, he was released - but not before he became the inspiration for another hit Netflix show How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast).

Prosecutors at his original trial described the operation, which turned over nearly a million euros before it was shut down, as "Amazon for drugs". Clients even left reviews and ratings, much like you'd see on eBay.

As he modelled his drug business on other online shops, with customers paying upfront before he mailed the drugs to them, it seems fitting to do a search for Maximilian Schmidt to see what comes up.
