Lockdown was hard-hitting on schoolchildren

The inept handling of lockdown by Boris Johnson has harmed many sectors of our society. Education was very badly affected. Schools suffered badly as a result of closing unnecessarily. So-called distance learning was generally poor, badly organised and for many pupils a non event.

Unlike many American school teachers who are trained and skilled in distance learning ours are not and it showed.

As a result, what learning took place during lockdown was perfunctory and of little use.

This led to a sharp decline in attendance once schools reopened after a lengthy closure.
