Hospitals alert in place over high pressure on services

The trust that manages Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital has taken the decision to deescalated from the highest internal alert level after 24 hours but warned the sites 'remain fragile'.
NHS bosses had implemented the highest level of internal alert measures at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in response to growing demand for services.
The measure, which is in place at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, is known as OPEL (Operation Pressure Escalation Levels) 4 and the NHS says this allows hospitals to focus on patient care and safety in times of pressure.
