But futuristic compact SUV still offers classic convenience, writes Julie Marshall

Hi-tech deck key to Skoda's electric Elroq

The Elroq is Skoda's first all-electric compact SUV, the smaller stablemate to the Enyaq. Both are tremendous cars and rank among the best.

In the 12 months or so since launch, the Elroq has been the recipient of numerous awards - all very much deserved.

The front end is particularly impressive with clean lines and a distinctive shape. Key to this is the 'Tech-Deck' which replaces the traditional grille and hides cameras, sensors and the like.

The name Skoda is now on the bonnet in place of the historic flying arrow badge, which is a shame; I quite liked that. Skoda is also on the steering wheel in bold lettering for the first time.

The sides of the Elroq are nicely sculptured, and these creases help to give it a modern look, but it is not so futuristic that it will alienate the average car buyer-if such a person actually exists.
