Starving Gaza

In Gaza, 21 children have died of malnutrition and starvation in just three days. The number, announced by the head of Gaza’s largest hospital, is not just a statistic, but an indictment of the world’s collective failure. When children are dying from enforced hunger, it is time that the world reckons with its silence.

It is baffling to see the world watching a livestreamed genocide on a day to day basis and appearing not to care. Or just confining its concern to intermittent condemnations and calls for ceasefire, which Israel dismisses contemptuously.

The United Nations calls the situation a “horror show”, and yet, the horror deepens daily. More than 59,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed since Israel’s military campaign began in October 2023. Now, starvation is being used as a weapon against Palestinians.
