As the national capital battles bad air, Srinagar feels the strain.

Freezing cold, rising pollution, and nonstop indoor heating have cloaked the city in a haze of dust and fumes.A study found that Srinagar's winter PM2.5 levels can soar to 348 micrograms per cubic metre. The national safety limit is just 60. At this level, the city's air is as bad as the worst winter smog in Delhi or Kolkata.
