Protests Erupt Over Deputy CM’s Remarks on MP Aga Ruhullah
Kashmir Observer
|OCTOBER 22, 2025 ISSUE
SRINAGAR: Widespread protests erupted in Ichgam, Budgam, and other areas of central Kashmir on Tuesday following controversial remarks by Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary. A video circulating on social media reportedly captured Choudhary saying, “Who Agha? I don't know him, I know only Agha Mehmood, who is our candidate for the Budgam by-elections.”
The comments sparked outrage among local residents and supporters of National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, who staged demonstrations demanding an apology, describing the Deputy CM's statement as “disrespectful” toward a senior political leader. Protesters were seen chanting slogans and holding rallies across multiple locations in Budgam.
