HOW A FAMILY TRAGEDY INSPIRED GRIEVING MUM RACHEL TO START CHARITY TO HELP BEREAVED KIDS

A 36-year-old dad of two died after stepping into an open manhole cover while at work, in an incident described by the coroner as a "really tragic accident".

Rachel Archer says she waved her partner David off to work in November 2023, not knowing that it would be the last time she would see him alive.

David Archer was working on a sewerage extension on a housing estate in Ramsgate when he became distracted by a passing road sweeper, looked up, and fell into an open manhole.

Despite the efforts of firefighters and paramedics, he could not be saved.

The inquest into his death found that Mr Archer's training had lapsed and he should not have been working on the site. The coroner said that he had done nothing wrong, and described the tragedy as a “really tragic accident”.
