Cameron Brannagan picked out Jack Currie with a long ball and Harris dispatched Currie's leftwing cross with a clinical first-time finish.

But Boro levelled nine minutes after the break when Whittaker diverted Callum Brittain's cross-shot with a smart, strike from eight yards.

Oxford head coach Gary Rowett was frustrated his team could not turn another draw at home into all three points.
