Mcllroy’s US bid implodes... now a Major reset needed for The Open

RORY MCILROY went backwards on moving day at the US Open as the Masters champion rued another Major that got away.

Nine weeks after completing his Career Slam, Mcllroy put together a disappointing four-over third round at Oakmont to finish 10-over par as his nightmare week continued.

This wasn't quite Friday all over again when he sneaked inside the cut with two birdies on the final four holes on a second round that saw him lose his cool several times.

He had thrown his club like a tomahawk on the 12th, and smashed the tee marker following a wayward drive on 17.

The five-time Major champion was visibly angry that day, aside from laughing at Shane Lowry (above) picking up a ball without marking it.
