THE Betfair Chase was child's play for Grey Dawning, as last year's runner-up got sweet revenge on Royale Pagaille for brothers Dan and Harry Skelton.
Twelve months ago, an error at the final fence was costly as the popular grey was reeled in strides from home by Royale Pagaille, who was relishing the Haydock Park mud to land the Grade 1 test for the second year in a row.
But the roles, and the result, were reversed as Harry Skelton (right), fresh from becoming a father for the second time, and 10-11 favourite Grey Dawning glided past their old rival on the run-in to bank the £112,540 first prize.
The emotional winning rider - Skelton's wife, the former jockey Bridget Andrews, gave birth to baby girl Anna on Thursday - said: “I'm just unbelievably proud of Bridget and I'm looking forward to getting home.
