Carmaker's new class out to fend off competition

The BMW iX3 is a very important car for the German carmaker.

- BY DEREK REILLY

We've heard a lot about Neue Klasse, which was the turnaround moment in BMW history back in the 60s when the company needed saving with some new and exciting models.

Not quite in the danger zone, BMW now has competition coming from all sides.

The Korean manufacturers are stepping up to more premium sizes and models.

Also from Asia, there are car brands that are starting to produce electric vehicles to compete on quality and at a more affordable price point.

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to drive this model, which is the start of the new class of BMWs rolling off the production line.

All future models will have elements of this and will mostly be seen across the brand's electric lineup.
