Warning on fake fixed charge cop text scam

GARDAI have warned the public of anew scam involving fraudsters impersonating officers via texts, which warn of unpaid fixed charge notices and late fees.

Fixed charge notices can be issued for a range of motoring offences, including speeding and failing to display the correct tax disc.

While many of these notices stem from a direct interaction with gardai, automated speeding cameras mean that motorists can receive a fixed charge notice without ever speaking with a garda in person.

It's this uncertainty that scammers are taking advantage of with their latest scheme.
