Trent is getting booed for all the wrong reasons

TRENT Alexander Arnold is going to become a very wealthy young man.

Trent is getting booed for all the wrong reasons

He will be signing for Real Madrid on a free transfer having let his contract with Liverpool expire.

He is 26 years old and has been at Liverpool for 20 years. A local boy came good and now on his way to play for Real Madrid.

Knowing how football works, once a player as valuable as Trent arrives on a free transfer, I would be surprised if he does not make €40 million out of this deal.

Alexander Arnold and his agent have worked this move very cleverly. There has been no drama.

He has fulfilled his contract, kept quiet, and now he is off.

To say that has caused a stir on Merseyside is an understatement.

They started booing him on Sunday when he was about to come on for Conor Bradley.

Then, after getting onto the pitch, a significant number of Liverpool supporters continued booing thereafter, passion and anger in their voices.

But the big question remains, what has he done wrong?

As far as I am concerned, all he has done is be clever.

He is dealing with Fenway Sports, a hard headed group of businessmen who own Liverpool not out of passion but because they know there is money to be made out of Premier League clubs.

Fenway, remember, played hardball with Virgil and with Mo Salah as their contracts ran down.

They tried to play a game of bluff with Trent but he didn't blink. He did what was best for him.

And while he was right to do so, the question remains how much do fans really understand about the revolution taking place in football?

You can bet your life Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and Alan Hansen understand.

These great players worked as slaves when they were footballers, tied with Liverpool until the club wanted rid of them.

That is what has changed.
