TOMMY'S REGRET

TOMMY McCarthy has opened up on his boxing career after his recent retirement.

The Belfast cruiserweight decided to hang up the gloves following his defeat to Steven Ward on the under-card of Lewis Crocker's win over Paddy Donovan.

The 34-year-old has plenty to be proud of, including winning Commonwealth silver as an amateur and becoming European and WBC International champion in the pro ranks. But reflecting on his 23 years in the ring, McCarthy believes he didn't fulfil his own potential.

He said on his Whiskey and White podcast: “I under-achieved. I know I did things to be proud of, but my career as a whole, in my books, has been a failure.
