Gory franchise back with a frenzy

- By Rachael Davis

HARDCORE horror fans will remember the gory thrills of 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer, the game-changing slasher film starring Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The horror sparked a cult-favourite franchise series, but fans haven't had a new instalment since 2006's I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer - until Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the director behind Maya Hawke-fronted teen black comedy Do Revenge - took the reins for another sequel.

This year's film, also titled I Know What You Did Last Summer, is not a remake of the Nineties favourite. Instead, the plot picks back up in Southport, North Carolina 27 years after the Tower Bay murders, when another hook-wielding killer appears and, inspired by the legendary serial murderer, begins to target a group of twenty-something friends with a dark past.
