STORM response crews were busily restoring power this morning after 10,000 households lost power in damaging 100km/h winds.

Some 14 counties on the island faced the full force of Storm Floris with weather warnings in place throughout much of the day.

Waterford, which hosted the All Together Now music festival over the weekend, was not one of the 14 counties but some revellers did report stormy conditions in their tents.

Met Eirean's series of Status Yellow wind and rain warnings due to potential power outages and dangerous perils like fallen trees proved accurate with several thousand without power.

Gerry Murphy, who is a senior meteorologist at the national weather service, highlighted strong winds in counties like Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, and Sligo.

He said: "It has been as bad as we expected. Rainfall amounts were heavy.
