NEVER GIVE UP Audrey Mahon's ill health saw her fall into a coma this year

THE mother of missing teen Amy Fitzpatrick has revealed she nearly died in hospital but vowed her fight to find out what happened to her daughter continues.

Audrey Mahon spent much of 2025 fighting for her life - due to liver disease and complications that left her in a coma for 10 days.

But now the Carrick-on-Shannon resident, whose 15-year-old daughter vanished from the Mijas Costa area of Spain on New Year's Day 2008, is recovering at home but remains determined to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Doctors told Audrey's husband Dave that she may not make it - and while she spent much of her time unaware of what was going on, he and her family were preparing for the worst.

She added: "For everyone else, for my friends and family and Dave of course was on tenterhooks.

longer than she was with me." Audrey said she will be able to one day return to Spain and meet with investigators in the Guardia Civil.

She added: "I honestly believe I would have got more done if I was still there.

"I am like a dog with a bone and if I was over there, I would still be getting it onto the radio stations, the TV, the newspapers like it was done before.

"But right now I can't even walk 10 minutes down the road."
