Heartbreak for Mayo as McGuinness slams 'unfair' venue

JIM MCGUINNESS has hit out at Donegal having to travel to Roscommon to play Mayo, saying "it would only happen because it's us".

Ciarán Moore's post-hooter winning point for McGuinness's side meant that Mayo made their earliest Championship exit in seven years in dramatic fashion - when a draw would have been enough to see them into the last 12.

But defeat meant that they paid the price for losing their opening group game to Cavan.

The Breffni finished third in Group 1 on the head-to-head with Tyrone top after beating Raymond Galligan's men.

Ahead of a home preliminary quarter-final next weekend, McGuinness insisted that the game should never have been fixed for Hyde Park.
