BEACHGOERS in the UK beat record temperatures yesterday by leaping into the sea, on a day when many struggled to keep cool.

Swimmers in Brighton took the plunge as what meteorologists call a heat dome pushed temperatures up to 33.1C.
And Cookie the cockapoo sat in the river Nene, also wearing sunglasses her owners put on her.
