Drummer of Debbie Harry's new wave band dies at 70
THE drummer credited with keeping Blondie together before they found worldwide fame has died aged 70.
Classics songs such as Call Me, Heart Of Glass and One Way Or Another might never have been made without Clem Burke, who passed away from cancer.
Burke joined the Debbie Harry-fronted band in 1975, a year after their formation. When bassist Fred Smith left to join Television, he recruited pal Gary Valentine, saving the band from breaking up.
He was a "spectacular" stickman, and was named one of the greatest drummers of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
