Goal tweak is next four Gavin's FRC

THE Football Review Committee has published its final report and has suggested that introducing a four-point goal and banning fisted points should be examined.

However, while the FRC, led by Jim Gavin (below), has put forward numerous tweaks across the board, the recommendation is that “further analysis is required” around both of those, which should only come at the end of the 2026 Championship season.

For now, the scoring system that has pertained so far this year — with three points for a goal as normal and two points for kicks over the bar from outside the new 40m arc — is what will go to the floor for Special Congress on October 4.

Unsurprisingly, the FRC has backed all its rule changes for permanent adoption next month, albeit with some minor changes.
