RETRO STYLES MAKE A COMEBACK

IT'S a case of back to the future in home interiors this year, with retro styles firmly leading modern living.

Home style has gone vintage, with wallpaper back in vogue, and baths and fires appealing to our nostalgia.

Our houses, apartments and gardens across the country are getting makeovers with carpets and rugs replacing tiles and wood flooring. Wallpaper was stripped years ago to expose brick feature walls but it is big again after falling out of fashion for so long, say the home fashion experts.

Kitsch decor like retro radios and drinks cabinets and other mid-century pieces are also proving timeless. Top retailers like DIY store Woodies, carpet specialists Kukoon, paper and paint experts MRCB, plus the firms' fashion designers, have opened their doors to showcase the styles.

Independent retailers like chimney sweep company Men In Black, one-stop shop Mac's Warehouse, which is also in Dublin, and Oriental Rugs in the capital have seen a surge in retro home redesigning.
