Daly says wife Linda supported new post

- BY MARK McCADDEN

JON DALY says he got an enthusiastic thumbs up from his wife when the opportunity to coach at Galway United came up.

Daly has been back with his family in Scotland since last year when his departure from St Patrick's Athletic ended a four-year spell away from home.

Galway boss John Caulfield offered him the role when assistant manager Ollie Horgan stepped back from his coaching duties and Daly arrived last weekend.

"John rang me, he has been onto me a few times, about the potential of coming in," said Daly.

"It was something that I had to weigh up and speak to the family about. I don't think it's a secret that my family is based in Scotland and I've been away for four years, with Finland for a year and Ireland for three.

"But I've been at home for the last seven months or so, so I think Linda was nearly driving me over herself!
