Chief of Staff in visit to frontier

THE head of the Defence Forces yesterday paid tribute to Irish soldiers trying to keep the peace in an isolated outpost right on the frontier between Lebanon and Israel.

"You have been on the front line and have done a great job," Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Rossa Mulcahy told a small detachment of Irish soldiers from the 126th Infantry Battalion based at UNP6-52.

That is a UN post just yards from the de facto border between the two countries - in an area devastated by a war last year between Israel and Islamic group Hezbollah.
