STEVE Bruce has recalled how he was “absolutely gutted” when stopped from declaring for Ireland ahead of the 1994 World Cup.
Bruce was 34 but despite being seen as one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League, he hadn't been capped by England.
So when Jack Charlton found out the Manchester United star had an Irish mother, he got in touch with Bruce and invited him to be a part of his squad.
