Autistic boy suing Education Minister over no school place

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD autistic boy who has not been in school since January has brought a High Court action over the Education Minister's alleged failure to provide him access to education.

In a statement of grounds, the boy - who is suing through his mother - says his lack of school placements “arises directly from the acts and omissions" of the minister and other respondents in the case.

On Tuesday, Ms Justice Marguerite Bolger gave permission to his solicitors to bring judicial review proceedings against Helen McEntee, inset, the National Council for Special Education, Ireland and the Attorney General. In a sworn statement to the court, the boy's mother says his previous school placement broke down. This followed his school forming the view that it could not cope with his complex needs and could not keep him safe, the mother says.
