149 motorists arrested for driving under the influence

NEARLY 150 motorists were arrested by gardai over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend for driving under the influence, it's been revealed.

Since Thursday, there has been an extensive Garda Roads Policing operation which ended yesterday morning at 7am.

As part of the extensive operation, more than 912 Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoints were carried out.

Over 4,500 breath tests and 213 oral fluid tests were performed, which led to 149 arrests for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
