Grammys star pays emotional tribute to his rock idol Ozzy Osbourne and widow Sharon

- TOM BRYANT

Rocker Yungblud paid an emotional tribute to his idol and friend Ozzy Osbourne as he accepted an award from the legend's tearful widow Sharon at the Grammys.

The singer won Best Rock Performance for his powerful but heartfelt rendition of Black Sabbath's ballad Changes at July's Back to the Beginning show.

The Villa Park heavy metal gig was Ozzy's last live performance. The rock icon, who had Parkinson's, died 17 days later.

The night before the LA ceremony, Yungblud and Sharon lit a candle for the Sabbath frontman.

And on stage he said: "To grow up loving an idol who helps you figure out your identity not only as a musician but also as a man is something that I'm truly grateful for. Then to get to know them and form a relationship with them and honour them at their final show and then receive this... the cost of it is something I and all of us are finding so strange to comprehend.

"We f***ing love you, Ozzy."

The 28-year-old from Doncaster, South Yorks, then credited Ozzy and Sharon for his breakthrough in the US.

He said: "It's beautiful how supportive they have been of me and supportive they have been over young artists, especially in rock music, over the past 30 or 40 years."
