JUSTIN KLUIVERT believes Bournemouth could have been in the race for the Champions League places if they had not dropped so many cheap points.

The Dutch forward has mustered 12 goals and six assists in the Premier League this season.

But his timely return to action following a recent muscle injury was unable to inspire victory against 10-man Crystal Palace, who had Chris Richards sent off.

The Cherries have now won just one of their past eight top-flight matches.

And when asked if Bournemouth could have been in top-five contention had it not been for their inconsistency, Kluivert said: "Perhaps that's the same for every team, but we could have been there for sure.

"We are still in the race for European football and that's our goal."
