Ex-Ireland striker Doyle tips Hoops boss Rodgers for the exit door and reveals he could have switched to Parkhead - twice!

- BY GAVIN BERRY

FORMER Ireland striker Kevin Doyle reckons Brendan Rodgers is “very close to the end” at Celtic.

And Doyle believes Old Firm dugout rival Russell Martin will depart Rangers for very different reasons.

Rodgers is in the final nine months of the three-year deal he signed when he agreed to return to Parkhead for a second stint as manager.

But the 62-times capped former Ireland striker was unhappy over the club's summer recruitment strategy - a repeat of the issue that forced him into a shock departure first time around.

There has been no clear indication he will extend his stay if he is even offered a new contact - and Doyle is convinced he will walk and won't be short of English Premier League offers.

Ex-Wolves front man Doyle said: "At the moment, just listening to Brendan Rodgers in his press conferences and talking about summer signings, what he didn't get, what he wanted, or reading between the lines, it doesn't look particularly rosy there.
