Pair detained as part of Garda probe Yet another twist in High Court case

- BY NICOLA DONNELLY and MICHAEL O'TOOLE Crime and Defence Editor

GARDAI were last night quizzing this couple on suspicion of perjury in Conor McGregor's failed High Court appeal.

Steven Cummins and Samantha O'Reilly were arrested by gardai yesterday morning as part of an investigation by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The couple, from Ballyfermot in south west Dublin, were being questioned in a Garda station in the city last night.

Sources last night told us it was likely the pair - who deny any allegations - would be released without charge, with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The sources also indicated there was still some work to do in the Garda probe and it could be several weeks before the DPP receives such a file. We have also learned that as part of the same probe, at least one search operation was carried out.

And sources also tell us Garda detectives called to another property in Dublin and seized a mobile as part of the same probe. That house was not searched and nobody was arrested.

PROBE

O'Reilly and Cummins, who are both in their 30s, have been at the centre of the NBCI probe after it began when the matter was referred to the DPP by the Court of Appeal earlier this year.
